This is a perennial plant which grows in salt-marshes and on wet coastal shores. It has tall, long-stalked spikes of small flowers (3–4 mm across) which have three very pale green petals. The leaves are linear and fleshy, not furrowed nor veined. The flowers can be seen from May to September and the egg-shaped fruit which follows has six carpels. This is a native plant belonging to the Juncaginaceae family.
I first came across this plant at Tacumshane, County Wexford in 2008 and I photographed it at that time.
